ZAGREB, 26 Sept (Hina) – In 2023 Croatia saw year-on-year decreases in cattle and pig farming and in the production of milk and eggs, Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS) data show.
The increase of cattle in 2023 dropped by 18.2% year on year to 74,889 tonnes and the number of calves brought forth decreased by 6,000 head (-5.1%).
The total export of cattle grew by 13.8% to 91,000 head while imports rose by 11.8% to 170,000 head.
The production of cows’ milk totalled 454.3 million litres, down 10.4% from 2022.
The increase of pigs dropped by 13.3% to 149,296 tonnes. The number of piglets brought forth increased by around 5,000 head (+0.4%).
As regards foreign trade, in 2023 the export of pigs of all categories dropped from 2022, by 8.6% to 319,000 head, while imports decreased by 18.7% to 535,000В head.
The increase of sheep dropped by 23.7% to 8,131В tonnes, while the number of lambs brought forth dropped by 16.5%. The production of sheeps’ milk dropped by 21.5% to 4.4В million litres.
The increase of goats was 46.1% down from 2022 to 601 tonnes, while the number of kids brought forth decreased by 15.1%. The production of goats’ milk decreased by 12.4% to 5.7 million litres.
Drop in egg production
A decrease of 3.7% to 642.6В million was recorded in the production of hens’ eggs, while the production of eggs of other poultry dropped by 19% to 639,000.
The number of hatched chicks dropped by 10.3% while the increase of poultry rose by 1.8% to 130,496 tonnes.
The total import of poultry increased by 3.2% while the export dropped by 41.4% from 2022.
