“There is no greater social injustice than unemployment and the inequalities it creates. That is why I welcomed with great satisfaction the data from the latest ERGANI system report, which records a 25-year high in new job positions,” emphasised Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in a social media post on Wednesday.
“The primary goal we set as a government when we took office in 2019 – to achieve a dynamic recovery in investment and employment – is now being realised. Obviously, this is not something that happens on its own or on autopilot, but rather the result of the policies we are implementing in the economy and the labour market,” the prime minister continued.
He underlined that it was achieved through drastic cuts in taxes and social insurance contributions for employees and businesses and through strong incentives for new investments and the reduction of bureaucracy. Through active employment and training policies, especially for specific population segments, such as women, young people, people with disabilities, and retirees who wish to work.
“This improvement is a collective achievement. Greece is making progress in very turbulent times, which are testing even larger and stronger economies than ours. This progress is not only quantitative but also qualitative. Today, three out of four workers are employed in full-time positions – a 10-point increase from 2019, when part-time positions were significantly more common,” he added.
Concluding, Mitsotakis underlined:”Together with the digital labour card, which protects 1.9 million workers from undeclared or underreported employment, we are creating – day by day – a fairer and better-paid labour market, aiming for a minimum wage of 950 euros and an average wage of 1,500 euros by 2027. We said it, and we’re doing it.”
