SARAJEVO, October 1 (FENA) – The Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide has launched a new website aimed at tracking and documenting all forms of genocide denial and war crimes committed on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The platform, Negatorigenocida.info, is designed as a tool to combat any form of relativization or glorification of crimes that have been adjudicated by international or domestic courts.
”Every act of denial or glorification will be carefully documented and analyzed, and forwarded to the relevant institutions, including the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, for further action,” the Association stated.
President of the Association, Murat Tahirović, points out the inadequate work of judicial institutions in prosecuting genocide denial.
”For a long time, we have been waging a small ‘war’ with the Prosecutor’s Office regarding the non-prosecution of genocide deniers and other war criminals. We have had statements that prosecutors do not know how to work; we secured education through the High Representative. Recently, there has been talk of a reduced number of cases, and indeed there has been, due to a lack of investigators, but that is not an excuse for not prosecuting the responsible parties,” Tahirović said in an interview with Detektor.
He reminds that there is a law at the FBiH level that allows cantonal prosecutors to bring charges for this criminal offense.
The Association calls on citizens to contact them if they have information about genocide denial or the glorification of war criminals.
A resolution adopted by the United Nations (UN) in May 2024, designating July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance of the Genocide in Srebrenica, along with the slow pace of justice in Bosnia and Herzegovina in raising indictments related to the denial of war crimes, has led to a threefold increase in revisionist narratives concerning the genocide in Srebrenica, as shown by Detektor’s content analysis in BiH and Serbia that disputes the genocide in Srebrenica.
In the first half of this year, 305 cases of genocide denial were recorded in BiH and Serbian media, which is three times more than in 2023, when a slight decrease was noted, according to the 2024 Report on Genocide Denial from the Srebrenica Memorial Center.
