Palace of Parliament to be lit in purple on Tuesday, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities
Bucharest, Dec 2 /Agerpres/ – The Palace of Parliament will be lit in purple on Tuesday to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The event is marked worldwide by the United Nations.
The Standing Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies approved, on Monday, a request to this effect from Save Romania Union (USR) deputy Oana-Silvia Toiu, vice-president of the legislative forum.
“Disability is a human rights issue, people with disabilities facing repeated acts of discrimination and stigmatization (…) Because of the large number of people with disabilities in Romania – over 940,000 people reported on June 30, 2024 – we wish to promote inclusion and support the dignity and rights of this category. Last but not least, by illuminating the Parliament building in the color purple, Romania shows its solidarity with vulnerable people and its determination to build a barrier-free society, thus joining the states and institutions around the world that mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in this way,” the document states.
