ZAGREB, 19 June (Hina) – More than 70 performers and musical ensembles will take part in events across Croatian towns and cities on Sunday to mark World Music Day, an international celebration observed on 21 June, the Croatian Musicians’ Union (HGU) said on Friday.
The event, also known as the Fête de la Musique, was launched in France in 1982 with the aim of making music accessible to all citizens and turning public spaces into open stages for amateur and professional musicians for one day. Today, it is held in more than 100 countries and attracts millions of participants and music lovers.
The HGU said that World Music Day promotes the value of live music-making, cultural diversity and the importance of music as a universal language that connects people, communities and generations.
This year’s programme in Croatia is being organised in cooperation with cities, municipalities, tourist boards, cultural institutions, music schools and associations. Performances will be held in squares, streets, waterfront promenades, parks, beaches and other public spaces.
A number of Croatian cities will take part in the celebration, including Zagreb, Split, Pula, Šibenik, Rijeka, Zadar and Osijek, as well as Labin, Delnice, Đakovo, Lovran, Novi Vinodolski and Oroslavje.
