Over 1,200 firefighting flights made since start of fire season

ZAGREB, 31 July (Hina) – As many as 1,238 flights have been made since the beginning of this year’s fire season, and given the situation, there will be many more until the end of the season, Defence Minister Ivan Anušić said on Wednesday during a visit to the Croatian Air Force’s firefighting squadron in Zemunik.

He especially thanked the pilots and technicians of the Canadair planes for their engagement in another demanding fire season and said that at this moment the firefighting squadron was working on repairing the damage.

“We all need to start dealing more with the causes, why so many fires happen in this particular area, why these fires are so massive, why they break out so uncontrollably, practically in places where there is no activity,” he pointed out.

He added that he believed that we could do a lot about this and that “firefighters and all the other services have to deal with the cause of these frequent and large fires.”
