Opera legend Plácido Domingo to give Skopje concert in March

Skopje, 19 February 2025 (MIA) – Spanish opera singer and conductor Plácido Domingo will give a concert on March 14 at Skopje’s Boris Trajkovski Arena. He will perform alongside María José Siri, a world-renowned soprano. The concert, performed by the Macedonian Opera and Ballet orchestra, will be conducted by Jordi Bernàcer from Spain.

The concert is a chance to put the country on the world map, Macedonian Opera and Ballet director Oliver Arsovski told a news conference Wednesday.

Arsovski said Domingo had a career spanning 50 decades and he was an integral part of the global opera scene. The Grammy-winning tenor, who was a member of the Three Tenors alongside Luciano Pavarotti and José Carreras, is also a director and a conductor.

María José Siri, one of the world’s leading sopranos, performed in Skopje in 2010 at the May Opera Evenings, he said, adding that Jordi Bernàcer was one of Spain’s top conductors who has been collaborating with Domingo since 2012.

Domingo’s Skopje concert is of great importance for a small country like ours, said Pragma Production official Kristijan Stefanovski, adding that the Spanish opera singer has been calling the country by its previous constitutional name “Macedonia” in his statements.   In a video message, Domingo said he was looking forward to performing in Skopje, noting that he hoped he would give a concert the audience will remember.
