Number of tourists, overnight stays in commercial accommodation up in first 9 months

In the first nine months of 2023 there were 17.7 million tourists in commercial accommodation, 9.1% more than in the same period of 2022, and they generated 87.5 million overnight stays, an increase of 2.2%.

The increase was also owing to an increase in both domestic and foreign visitors in September alone, show data from the national statistical office.

In September 2023 alone, there were 15.3% more tourists than in the same month of 2022, or 2.4 million, and they generated 11.5 million overnight stays, an increase of 4%.

Both in September and in the first nine months, most visitors in commercial accommodation were foreigners – 15.6 million, 9.1% up from the same period of last year. They generated 80.4 million overnight stays, up 2%.

A total of 2.1 million foreign tourists chose commercial accommodation in September, 15.5% more, thus contributing the most to the total increase in the number of arrivals in September, and they accounted for 11 million overnight stays, 3.7% more than in September 2022.

In the first nine months of this year, 2.1 million domestic tourists stayed in commercial accommodation, a 7% increase, and they generated 7 million overnight stays, up4%.

In September alone, 234,500 domestic tourists stayed in commercial accommodation, generating 649,600 overnight stays, which are year-on-year increases of 14% and 8.1% respectively.
