A new humanitarian aid shipment of 900 tonnes, comprising medicines, medical equipment, hygiene items, food and shelter equipment, has departed from Cyprus for Gaza as part of the ongoing implementation of the Amalthea Project.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the mission is being carried out in close cooperation with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), under the oversight mechanism established by the relevant UN Security Council Resolution 2720, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the necessary operational coordination with the parties directly involved.
It is noted that various states, international organisations and humanitarian organisations are assisting in the delivery of aid, including the French Republic, the Slovak Republic, the State of Kuwait, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the World Health Organisation (WHO), World Central Kitchen, All Hands and Hearts and Project Hope.
“In this context, Cyprus continues to serve as a stable hub for the collection, storage, secure screening, inspection and dispatch of humanitarian aid, which is transhipped for delivery and distribution to Gaza via the port of Ashdod”, it is emphasised in this regard.
To date, since the maritime humanitarian corridor came into operation, more than 37,000 tonnes of aid have been dispatched and delivered to the civilian population of Gaza, the statement concludes.
