MJU: Integrity checks significant step towards protecting senior public positions

Podgorica, (MINA) – The introduction of integrity checks represents a significant step forward, and it is the responsibility of all institutions to establish, through constitutional and legal reforms, a comprehensible and sustainable system for safeguarding the integrity of highest public officers, the Ministry of Public Administration (MJU) said.

The Ministry said that they had been working on integrity checks for a long time and that this model had already been incorporated into the Draft Law on the Government, prepared in cooperation with Council of Europe experts and is currently in the parliamentary procedure.

According to the press release, the Draft Law on the Government represents an important step towards strengthening transparency, accountability and integrity in the performance of the highest executive functions.

They clarified that the legal proposal required candidates to complete a questionnaire and make a statement, after which the data is verified by relevant institutions, including authorities responsible for public procurement, tax collection and the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption.

“The MJU believes that the introduction of the integrity checks is a significant step forward and that all institutions have a responsibility to establish, in the coming period, through appropriate constitutional and legal reforms, a comprehensible and sustainable safeguarding system for the integrity of the holders of the highest public offices”, the press release concludes.
