Miladinov Brothers City Library celebrates 165th anniversary of ‘Miscellany’

Skopje, 8 June 2026 (MIA) — Miladinov Brothers City Library will hold an event Monday to celebrate the 165th anniversary of the publication of Miladinov brothers’ “Miscellany,” organizers said in a press release.

According to the release, the celebration will be held at the library’s Longing For the South memorial room to highlight the lasting impact that Dimitar and Konstantin Miladinov’s work has had on Macedonian language, literature and cultural identity.

Library director Aneta Mehandzhijska will open the event, which will feature Bratislav Tashkovski speaking about the Miladinov brothers’ legacy.

The event will also feature actors performing selected poems and other writings from the “Miscellany.” The library will put on display all editions of the book as well as other works by the brothers from its archives.

First published in 1861, the Miladinov brothers’ “Miscellany” is widely regarded as one of the most important works in Macedonian cultural and literary history, crucial to preserving the region’s folklore and linguistic heritage. mr/
