Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will attend the international peace summit organised in Cairo in Egypt Saturday by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on the Middle East conflict, sources close to the premier said Friday.

The crisis erupted after Gaza Islamist group Hamas staged a bloody surprise raid into Israel.

Since then Israel has been bombing Hams in retaliation and there are fears of a humanitarian catastrophe as death mount and essential supplies run out.

Egypt has said it will allow the first aid trucks into the territory later Friday.
