The authorities laid the foundations for the development of the local energy sector by listing the main Romanian energy companies, based on some essential principles of the capital market: trust, transparency, the application of corporate governance principles, the general director of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) Adrian Tanase declared on Wednesday.
“Electrica has demonstrated that the listing helps the company’s success. In the last 10 years, more than 400 million shares have been traded. The listing of Electrica represented a reference moment for the Bucharest Stock Exchange and for the local capital market, both by the size of the public offer since that date, and by the evolution of the company on the stock exchange in the last decade. The local capital market has changed significantly in the last ten years, and Electrica was part of this transformation,” said Tanase, on the occasion of the 10-year anniversary since Electrica was listed on the stock exchange.
On July 4, 2014, Electrica made history by launching the largest initial public offering (IPO) in the history of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, attracting almost two billion RON (444 million euros), according to a statement of the company representatives.
According to the source, this was the only privatization with a majority stake carried out through the stock exchange and the only listing from the Romanian state portfolio with the issuance of new shares, consolidating the company’s position as a leader in the energy sector.
Thus, even after ten years, the Electrica IPO remains the largest initial public offering in the history of the capital market in Romania.
From a financial perspective, in the ten years since the listing, Electrica has invested over 6 billion RON in the modernization and expansion of the energy infrastructure.
At the same time, Electrica was a pioneer in publishing the Sustainability Report starting in 2016, before it became a legal requirement.
Currently, Electrica is the largest employer in the field of energy in Romania, with almost 8,000 employees.
The Electrica Group is a key player on the electricity distribution, supply and production market in Romania, as well as one of the most important players in the energy services sector.
The company offers services to approximately 3.9 million users and has a national coverage area, with organization in three areas for the distribution of electricity: North Transylvania, South Transylvania, North Muntenia, and throughout the country, for the supply of electricity and for maintenance and energy services.
Since July 2014, Electrica is a company with majority private capital, listed on the Bucharest and London stock exchanges. Moreover, Electrica is the only listed Romanian company in the field of electricity distribution and supply.AGERPRES(RO – author: Nicoleta Banciulea, editor: Daniel Badea; EN – editor: Maria Voican)
