Kurti gives details about the agreement on the de-escalation of the situation in the north
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has given details about the agreement on the de-escalation of the situation in the north of Kosovo. In the meantime, he highlighted the need for the EU’s punitive measures against Kosovo to be removed.
Kurti, in his address before the meeting of the Government of Kosovo, said that through Monday’s agreement in Bratislava, 25 percent of the police presence in and around municipal facilities in the north will be moved elsewhere where they are needed, in those municipalities.
According to him, this is happening because in the last two weeks the situation in the municipality of Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposaviq has been much calmer.
Meanwhile, he emphasized the need for the full implementation of the Kosovo-Serbia basic agreement.
Also, Kurti underlined that they support the holding of new elections in the four northern municipalities, but according to the legislation in force and after the summer season.
In addition to these, Kurti highlighted the need for the EU’s punitive measures against Kosovo to be removed.
According to him, the two parties should negotiate on the basis of equal positions.
He also emphasized that for the success of the implementation of the Kosovo-Serbia basic agreement, the two parties must publicly acknowledge that the agreement is legally binding.
“For the success of the implementation of the basic agreement, first the two parties must publicly acknowledge that the agreement is legally binding, which has not yet happened by the Serbian side. Second, the agreement must be implemented in full, it is not clear to one of the parties. Thirdly, the implementation of the articles of the agreement cannot be conditioned and fourthly that the two parties must have the opportunity to negotiate from equal positions. This has been violated by the imposition of temporary measures against Kosovo by the EU. The agreement of Bratislava will help a lot in focusing on establishing equality between the parties that helps the implementation of the basic agreement”, said Kurti.
