The Kosovo-Albania parliamentary session is expected to bring together Kurti and Rama

The hall of plenary sessions of the Kosovo Assembly will host on Friday the deputies from Albania, who will join in the joint meeting of the two parliaments. Both countries have a shared goal of a common European agenda.

The analyst from Albania, Ben Andoni, does not have high expectations from this session, however, he emphasizes that the two countries remain closely connected to each other, regardless of daily politics.

“The only place where the executive branches of Kosovo and Tirana are held accountable is their respective parliaments. Our parliaments, both in Kosovo and Albania, are powerless in front of the prime ministers, so in this case, I see this meeting as a missed opportunity, and on the other hand, as s kind of counterpoint to what the Serbs are doing in the ‘Serb world,’ where they held a joint meeting of the parliamentarians of the Serbian Republic in Belgrade and the Serbs of Montenegro. In a way, this is a meeting that should have happened earlier and, in a sense, would unite the legislative branches of the two countries. I don’t think we can expect anything major, except for what we already know very well that whatever happens, Kosovo and Albania are connected to each other. As for what the public expects, that the two parliaments should be very integrated with one another and help each other, I believe we are still far from that,” says Andoni.

The joint meeting of the two parliaments, according to institutions on both sides of the border, comes as a necessity for coordinating the agenda to achieve the goals that include Albania’s accession to the European Union and Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic integration. It also aims the protection and advancement of the rights of Albanians. In this meeting, is expected to be present  also the Prime Ministers, Albin Kurti and Edi Rama.

Both governments have already signed dozens of agreements, but intergovernmental meetings are not being held. The last one that failed to take place was in June 2023, due to disagreements between Kurti and Rama./
