Kapaj performs ahead of Odyssey screening in Prishtina: “Remove the borders, art unites us”
Vendim Kapaj performed live for the audience at Cineplexx in Prishtina shortly before the IMAX screening of The Odyssey, performing the traditional melody he contributed to the film’s soundtrack.
After the performance, Kapaj told KosovaPress that he is proud to see the traditional music of Labëria gaining wider recognition and now being regarded as part of the shared heritage of all Albanians.
“I am very proud that the traditional music of Labëria, of Albania, now belongs to all Albanians. I am very happy that this traditional music has crossed the ocean, so to speak. I am truly delighted because art and culture unite nations. My wish is that the barriers between Kosovo and Albania be removed, that the obstacles still separating us disappear, and that there should be no more borders,” Kapaj said.
He also spoke about the importance of promoting Albanian traditional music on the international stage, noting that he has been performing it for 54 years.
“For 54 years I have been performing this traditional music, and I have travelled and performed almost all over the world. It has been appreciated, and I have received several medals. I am very pleased that art and culture are the first ambassadors to reach the world, and only afterwards comes politics,” Kapaj concluded.
Following the musical performance, the audience had the opportunity to watch The Odyssey.
