Podgorica, (MINA) – The area of one of the largest illegal landfill in Cemovsko Polje in Podgorica, near the Cattle Market, has been cleaned and revitalized, the Europe House announced.
It is stated that, as part of the national environmental campaign “Čuvaj da te čuva” the site was completely transformed after 650 cubic meters of waste was removed, which is equivalent to 130 tons.
“In the place where until recently construction and bulky waste stood, there is now a well-organized public space with benches”, the press release says.
The Europe House emphasized that, in order to prevent a wild landfill to reappear, 15 surveillance cameras and warning signs have been installed, while the Municipal Police and other inspection services will carry out regular surveillance.
The cleaning action was supported by the EU Delegation in Montenegro, the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Development of the North, the Capital City of Podgorica, the Green Montenegro Initiative, and the company Voli.
It is emphasized that the campaign, encouraged by this success, will expand the network of cameras to other critical points, such as Vrela Ribnicka, where the waste tires are being burned.
The European House reminded that the campaign “Čuvaj da te čuva”, launched on World Environment Day, has already brought together a broad coalition of partners from state institutions, local governments, academic community, civil society and socially responsible companies.
