Abazovic: Enlargement process must be revived

Podgorica, (MINA) – The EU enlargement process must be revived, said Prime Minister of Montenegro Dritan Abazovic following the informal meeting of the Western Balkan leaders in Tirana.

Abazovic said that the meeting, which was attended by European Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi, was very successful and that they talked ahead of the Berlin process summit that will take place in October.

“The goal is to together do everything we can in order to improve the whole region so that we can complete our responsibilities faster, but also to be awarded for our efforts, if we would be successful”, said Abazovic.

He said that they mostly discussed how to get to new projects and ideas on the so called “IPA plus” funds, mentioned by European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen.

Abazovic said that everyone must be committed to using this moment.

“The enlarged process must be revived. Montenegro has the position that, I believe, is better than those of other countries of the region. However, regardless of that, we should get to the funds, but we also must complete our homework”, said Abazovic.

He expressed hope that the new parliament would be efficient and that it would be able to keep up with the Government’s activities.

“And that in that context we can all at the end of this year, despite some political situations, that didn’t depend on us, be satisfied”, said Abazovic.
