IDDEEA: BiH passport rises to 47th place globally on the 2025 Henley Index

SARAJEVO, October 16 (FENA) – According to the latest Henley Passport Index for 2025, Bosnia and Herzegovina has advanced to 47th place in the world, allowing visa-free travel to 122 countries.

This progress places BiH among the top 50 most trusted passports globally, confirming the quality and security of the country’s identification system, as well as international confidence in the state.

“The ranking of BiH on the global passport list is not just a matter of mobility, but also an indicator of other countries’ trust in our institutions, documents, and security standards. The Agency for Identification Documents, Registers and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEA) continuously strengthens its technological infrastructure and aligns all processes with European regulations and ICAO standards. Our biometric solutions and digital identities already meet the highest requirements applied within the EU,” said Almir Badnjević, Director of the IDDEEA BiH.

However, the key factor in establishing visa-free regimes and bilateral agreements that directly affect BiH’s ranking is the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH, which conducts international negotiations and concludes agreements on travel facilitation, the IDDEEA stated.

“That is why it is important that technical security and international diplomacy act in synchronization. The IDDEEA builds trust through document security and standards, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs opens doors through bilateral agreements. Only in this way can we create credibility that results in greater freedom of movement for our citizens,” Badnjević emphasized.

According to Henley & Partners data, Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently ranked behind 34 European countries, including 26 EU member states, as well as 12 non-European countries. This positions BiH among the top 20 percent of world passports, continuing a steady upward trend over the past five years.
