Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro’s goal of becoming an EU member by 2028 will be achieved during this Government’s term of office, said Czech Ambassador to Podgorica Janina Hrebickova during a farewell meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Becic.
Hrebickova said that during the mandate of the current government, the prospect of Montenegro’s European accession had finally come into sight.
According to the press release, Becic and Hrebickova discussed the results of cooperation between the two countries, reforms in the security and defense sectors, strengthening of institutional capacities and the European perspective of Montenegro.
Hrebickova assessed that the results of security sector reforms were visible.
Becic said that in the previous three years, significant investments had been made in the security and defense sectors, through the strengthening personnel capacities and modernizing resources and work processes.
Speaking about integrity checks in the security and defense sectors, Becic said that vetting had become one of the key instruments of institutional reform.
“Legal mechanisms existed before, but they were not used. The authorities are now only applying the law with the aim of cleansing institutions of compromised individuals and illicit influences”, said Becic.
