Grlić Radman: Croatia committed to humanitarian demining

ZAGREB, 22 Oct (Hina) – Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Minister Gordan Grlić Radman confirmed Croatia’s commitment to humanitarian demining and sharing over three decades of expertise as a foundation for Ukraine’s safe and sustainable recovery during a conference on demining in Tokyo on Wednesday.

By participating in the Tokyo conference — following conferences in Lausanne in 2024 and Zagreb in 2023 — Croatia once again underlined its dedication to global efforts for a safer, more resilient and prosperous Ukraine, the Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Ministry said.

Since the start of Russia’s aggression, Croatia has provided Ukraine with comprehensive support, including assistance in various aspects of mine action — from humanitarian demining and strengthening institutional capacities to mine risk education and aid for victims — totalling over €13 million.

Croatia has developed an efficient and modern mine action system, whose greatest value and comparative advantage lies in the expertise and experience of highly trained professionals capable of transferring unique knowledge to countries in need, the ministry said.

During the conference, Minister Grlić Radman met with newly appointed Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi.

“Our meeting confirmed the strong partnership and mutual trust between Croatia and Japan, as well as our shared commitment to global peace and stability,” Grlić Radman wrote on X.

Motegi expressed his intention to maintain close cooperation with Croatia, both bilaterally and on the international stage.

The Croatian minister also met with Ukraine’s Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Oleksii Sobolev, as well as French President Emmanuel Macron’s special envoy for Ukraine, Pierre Heilbronn. Discussions focused on humanitarian priorities, cooperation in mine action, and coordinated support for Ukraine’s reconstruction.

Grlić Radman held talks with Cambodian Senior Minister Ly Thuch, and the two officials discussed mine action and opportunities for Croatian companies to connect with Cambodian partners.

During his visit to Tokyo, Grlić Radman  visited the exhibition booth of Croatian company DOK-ING and its Ukrainian partner A3Tech Ukraine, where Croatia’s globally recognised innovative demining technology was showcased.
