Greece, Israel sign agreement to promote regional energy stability

Greece and Israel signed an intergovernmental agreement to promote regional energy stability in Athens on Monday.

Signing the agreement that also includes innovative energy works related to the East Mediterranean and the entire European Union were Greek Environment and Energy Minister Thodoros Skylakakis and Israeli Energy and Infrastructure Minister Eli Cohen.The agreement was signed at the Environment and Energy Ministry in the framework of a scheduled visit by Cohen to Greece.

Following the signing, Skylakakis said that the strategic agreement “confirms the long-term relationship and collaboration between Greece and Israel.” He called the agreement a landmark in the collaboration of the two countires in terms of energy, “and it has much in store for the future,” as both Greece and Israel are facing the repercussions of the climate crisis.

“In this context, the creation of a ‘green’ corridor of electric energy from Israel to the European Union through Greece will comprise a project of strategic importance for the East Mediterranean region,” Skylakakis said.
