Gov’t declares project of building new gas pipelines strategic

ZAGREB,  2 Jan (Hina) – The government on Thursday declared the “Supporting Infrastructure for the Strategic Investment Project LNG Terminal” as a project of strategic importance. The total cost of implementing the project is estimated at €534 million (excluding VAT).

The gas transport system operator Plinacro is in charge of implementing this strategic project, which envisages further development of the gas transport system to transport gas from the LNG terminal at Omišalj on the northern Adriatic island of Krk to other countries.

The Omišalj-Zlobin gas pipeline will be connected to the Zlobin-Bosiljevo, Bosiljevo-Sisak and Kozarac-Sisak pipelines to form the main gas evacuation pipeline connecting the LNG terminal to the countries of central and eastern Europe and Ukraine.

The construction of the Lučko-Zabok-Rogatc gas pipeline is also planned, boosting gas flow from the LNG terminal to Slovenia.

In total, the project involves the construction of four gas pipelines spanning 216 km, establishing Croatia as a key international energy hub.

“This project ensures Croatia’s energy independence,” said Economy Minister Ante Šušnjar. Prime Minister Andrej Plenković added that the newly constructed pipelines will also support the transport of hydrogen, further enhancing Croatia’s energy infrastructure.
