Gas potential exploration to continue in Montenegro’s part of the Adriatic

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Minister of Mining, Oil, and Gas Admir Sahmanovic has announced the continuation of gas potential exploration in the Montenegrin part of the Adriatic, along with further implementation of the Adriatic-Ionian pipeline construction project.

“These projects not only contribute to energy stability but can also significantly strengthen Montenegro’s geopolitical position in the region, at the EU level, and beyond. We have ambitious plans, which is why we need reliable and renowned partners,” said Sahmanovic.

At the invitation of Turkish Ambassador Barıs Kalkavan and President of the Turkish Chamber of Commerce (TurkCham) Burhan Genc, he met with TurkCham members of the and representatives of prominent Turkish companies operating in Montenegro.

Sahmanovic presented the Ministry’s development plans and initiatives for the upcoming period, highlighting potential projects that could attract investment.

Special emphasis was placed on ongoing projects, including the reconstruction of oil tanks in Bar and the Government’s plans to establish strategic oil reserves.

Representatives of TurkCham and companies from different sectors briefed Sahmanovic on their business activities and investment interests, underscoring the significant potential for strengthening economic ties between Montenegrin and Turkish businesses.

Kalkavan welcomed TurkCham’s initiative to identify new investment opportunities through dialogue with the minister. As an example of successful cooperation, he highlighted the entry of the Turkish airline Pegasus into the Montenegrin market, which led to a fourfold increase in the number of tourists from Turkey.

Genc noted that there was significant interest from Turkish businesses in investing in Montenegro.

“This meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views and ideas, and we are particularly pleased that Sahmanovic recognized the importance of cooperation and dialogue between government and industry representatives,” Genc concluded.
