Flood recovery efforts underway in Vlora while there is done a damage assessment

TIRANA, October 6 /ATA/ Following the floods caused by the heavy rains during the last two days, the situation in the municipality of Vlora seemed calm.

Prefect of Vlora region Kristaq Kiço told ATA today that, “There have been restored the electricity and drinking water supply. While the four blocked roads are passable”.

“We are also working on cleaning the roads from inerts and waste brought by the water. The municipality has been using all its means while Water and Sewerage Directorate has provided 7 boats and 2 probes”, he added.

Prefect Kiço also said that there is work underway to record the damages.

“The army has also helped with pumps to remove the water from the underground garages,” Kiço said.

Prefect Kiço informed that yesterday about 300 food packages arrived to help the affected families.

While yesterday evening Mayor of Vlora Ermal Dredha said that, “Our efforts are focused on helping every family and business affected by the rains. Even though the situation was beyond our forecasts and capacity, with 180 mm of rain in two hours, we are determined to keep on addressing every problem”, said Dredha.

The heavy rains which began two days ago and lasted for several hours caused flooding in some areas of the city of Vlora.
