Bomb threats sent to schools across Croatia turn out to be hoaxes

ZAGREB, 6 Feb (Hina) – A wave of bomb threats targeting schools across Croatia on Thursday morning has turned out to be a hoax, following thorough inspections by bomb disposal experts.

Investigations are still ongoing at some schools, and authorities are working to identify the source of the threats.

The threats, sent via email, targeted 16 schools in Zagreb, two in Požega, two in Čakovec five in Zadar, three in Rijeka, three in Šibenik and one school in Koprivnica.

Additionally, the Istrian police confirmed that they received similar notifications from Pazin, Buzet, Buje, Rovinj, and Pula. Unconfirmed reports also indicated threats in other areas of southern Croatia.

Authorities swiftly responded, evacuating students and dispatching police and bomb squads to conduct thorough sweeps of the premises.

The police confirmed after the inspections that threats in several Zagreb schools were hoaxes.

The bomb threats in Čakovec also turned out to be hoaxes.

Authorities have promised to keep the public informed as the investigation continues. In the meantime, security measures have been heightened, and law enforcement authorities are working to trace the source of the threats.

The principal of a vocational school in Zagreb told the press that the email he received contained certain Islamist threats.
