The book “Simon Gjoni – Music and the Epoch” dedicated to the life and activity of the conductor and composer Simon Gjoni was promoted at the Academy of Sciences. The book was written by his son, Andis Gjoni, and comes out on the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding conductor and composer.
Family members, fellow musicians, personalities of art and science were present at this event. Vaso Tole took the floor on behalf of the Presidency of the Academy of Sciences of Albania. He said that the celebrations on the 100th anniversary of the birth of Simon Gjon feature several activities, such as a concert of selected works with the symphony orchestra of RTSH and a well-known cast of singers, directed by maestro Eno Koço, “Honor of the Nation “, external member of the Academy of Sciences of Albania, exhibitions, as well as the promotion of the book “Music and the Epochs.”
Simon Gjoni belongs to the generation of creators and musicians who made the history of Albanian music in the second half of the 20th century. He was part of the generation of Shkodra composers together with Prenk Jakova, Česk Zadeja, Tish Daija, Tonin Harapi, Gjon Kapidani, etc.
In addition to composition, Simon Gjoni will also be remembered as one of the first conductors of the Opera and Ballet Theater Symphony Orchestra.
