Bogdan Muresanu’s The New Year That Never Came feature to premiere at Venice Film Festival

Bogdan Muresanu’s Anul Nou care n-a fost / The New Year That Never Came debut feature film will have its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival and is the only Romanian feature presented in competition in this edition of the festival.

According to a release sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday, the first fiction feature film written and directed by Bogdan Muresanu has been selected for the Orizzonti competition section of the Venice International Film Festival, now at its 81st edition, which will take place between August 28 and September 7.

The New Year That Never Came is a tragicomedy whose action takes place in only one day, before the 1989 Revolution, in which the characters are looking for normality, safety, love, freedom and meaning, in an absurd world, full of fear.

Director Bogdan Muresanu, actors Adrian Vancica, Nicoleta Hancu, Iulian Postelnicu, Mihai Calin, Emilia Dobrin, Andrei Miercure and other crew members will be attending the world premiere in Venice.

Devoted to films representing the newest and most expressive trends in international cinema, the Orizzonti section will be judged by: American director and screenwriter Debra Granik (president of the jury), Iranian screenwriter, director and producer Ali Asgari, Syrian director and screenwriter Soudade Kaadan, Greek director, screenwriter and producer Christos Nikou, Swedish actress and director Tuva Novotny, Hungarian filmmaker Gabor Reisz, Italian screenwriter and director Valia Santella.
