ZAGREB, 7 Aug (Hina) – For the first time in Croatia, the City of Zagreb is making information accessible in a simple and easy-to-understand format for people with intellectual disabilities and anyone who has difficulty understanding complex texts, by introducing the “Easy to Read” standard.
“The Easy to Read standard, developed at the European Union level, enables clear, accessible, and comprehensible communication. Documents in this format use short sentences and simple words, often accompanied by illustrations, reducing the risk of misunderstanding and exclusion of citizens from important information and decision-making processes,” reads a press release from the Office of Mayor Tomislav Tomašević.
The city emphasises that the new Easy to Read website will regularly publish important news, information about the City of Zagreb, official documents, and details about city institutions.
Documents in the Easy to Read format are created by trained City of Zagreb employees and are further reviewed in cooperation with organisations representing people with intellectual disabilities to ensure their clarity and usefulness.
