The seven-meter traditional male figure with a folklore costume, known as the “Vrakas”, who has come to be the signature of the Limassol Wine Festival, was put up on Friday, ready to welcome visitors at the 64th Wine Festival that will take place from 27 September to 5 of October at the municipal park of the coastal town of Limassol.
The ceremony took place in the presence of Mayor Yiannis Armeftis and members of the municipal council, to the sounds of wine songs by the Serenaders “Ariones”.
The Mayor said that in a difficult period for the wine villages that suffered damages due to the destructive wildfires in July, the Wine Festival “comes to bring joy and happiness to young and old, highlighting Cypriot wine”.
He also said that in the framework of the festival, two events will be held in the countryside, one in the community of Mallia, where the July 23 fire started, and one in the community of Kalo Chorio.
The Mayor expressed the belief that this year’s Wine Festival will break last year’s attendance record, and extended an invitation to foreigners and locals to visit the festival and enjoy the various events which have been upgraded this year.
Among these, he said, are new pavilions for the local wineries and a rich programme, including concerts by Cypriot and Greek artists, theatrical performances, satirical events, etc.
