SREBRENICA, October 14 (FENA) – President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen began her official visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina today with a the Srebrenica Memorial Center.
Accompanied by Munira Subašić, president of the “Mothers of Srebrenica and Žepa” association; Emir Suljagić, director of the Memorial Center; Luigi Soreca, head of the EU Delegation to BiH; and Hamdija Fejzić, chairman of the Center’s Management Board, Ursula von der Leyen paid tribute to the victims of genocide.
Von der Leyen wrote on her X profile that her visit to the Srebrenica Memorial Center had a profound emotional impact.
“I paid tribute to the memory of more than 8,300 Bosniaks, boys and men, who were murdered in Srebrenica 30 years ago. I also honored the mothers, wives, and daughters who have carried the burden of loss for three long decades,” the President of the European Commission emphasized.
She underlined that it is our duty to preserve the truth and work actively toward reconciliation, adding that the European Union will always remember the Srebrenica genocide.
During her visit, meetings are also scheduled in Sarajevo with members of the Presidency of BiH and the Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers, Borjana Krišto, after which joint statements for the media are expected.
