The United States has solid relations with the Vatican and they share a common commitment to peace, the US State department said after Pope Leo XIV met Secretary of State Marco Rubio Thursday.
The audience lasted about 45 minutes, a US State Department source said.
The meeting underscored “the solidity of relations between the United States and the Holy See, as well as their shared commitment to peace and human dignity,” the State Department said in a statement.
In an official statement, State Department spokesman Tommy Pigot reported that “Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Pope Leo XIV today to discuss the situation in the Middle East and issues of mutual interest in the Western Hemisphere.
“The meeting underscored the strong relationship between the United States and the Holy See, as well as their shared commitment to promoting peace and human dignity,” he said.
