UNDP and EU have contributed to improving lives in Montenegro for two decades

Podgorica, (MINA) – The EU has invested nearly EUR 18 million in development projects implemented by the UNDP in Montenegro so far, bringing tangible benefits to Montenegrin citizens, the press release issued by UNDP stated.

This year, the UNDP and the EU are marking a significant milestone – 20 years of successful global partnership.

UNDP stated that their development programs and priorities are aligned with national priorities in the EU accession process, as well as with the 2030 Agenda.

“As many as two-thirds of the measures within the UN Sustainable Development Goals are directly linked to the negotiation chapters and the accession requirements, reflecting the joint efforts of UNDP and the EU to strengthen inclusive and resilient communities – with a focus on people and their needs”, the statement reads.

The UNDP Resident Representative in Montenegro, Ekaterina Paniklova, said that UNDP and the EU have been contributing together to improving lives in Montenegro and beyond for two decades.

“Since the office was established in 2006, UNDP has implemented development projects in Montenegro worth $120 million, with the EU as one of its key donors. This partnership has been crucial for progress in important areas – human development, green growth, governance, social inclusion, digitalization, and gender equality”, Paniklova said.

The EU Ambassador to Montenegro, Oana Cristina Popa, stated that the UNDP-EU partnership has transformed local and state governance, launched digital innovations, improved the judiciary, enhanced the health system, and social inclusion.
