Two Georgian men were stopped by border police at Bologna’s Marconi Airport late on Monday as they attempted to board a flight bound for Tel Aviv with fake passports, sources said on Tuesday.

The false passports said the two men, who have been reported to prosecutors, were Israelis.

According to initial findings, neither of the men has a criminal record, although investigations are ongoing.

Security for flights to Israel is tight following the attempted hijacking of the Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv last week and Wednesday’s third anniversary of the October 7 attacks.
