The only ice hotel in Romania, at Balea Lake, is under construction

Bucharest, Dec 10 /Agerpres/ – Workers have started the construction of the only ice hotel in Romania, the one at over 2,000 meters altitude, in the Fagaras (Фъгъраш) Mountains, at Balea (Бьлеа) Lake, in Sibiu County, a tourist attraction that will open on Christmas Eve, the representatives of the company that is the owner of the construction announced through a press release.

At Balea Lake, there is a natural layer of 56 centimeters of snow, according to meteorologists.

“This year, the weather conditions recorded at Balea Lake were very good since the beginning of December, so we started erecting the Ice Hotel a little earlier. I think that for over a decade we have not experienced so much snow, temperatures constantly low and such a thick layer of ice, in this period of the year, and this situation makes us very happy. So, the weather conditions being ideal, we started in force and by this time we have completed the walls and roofs of the first seven igloos. We are still working with ambition and if the weather does not play tricks on us, we will be able to open for visiting and receiving guests, on the Eve Christmas, as it is the tradition at Balea Lake”, declares Arnold Gunter Klingeis, the manager of Ice Hotel at Balea Lake.

According to the quoted source, each room of the hotel will be named after a great composer or conductor. The owner of the hotel wants to invite the famous Dutch conductor Andre Rieu this winter to visit the Transfagarasan (ТрансФъгъраш) Road and the Ice Hotel at Balea Lake.

At the end of the works, the Balea Lake Ice Hotel (2024-2025 season) will consist of 12 igloo-type rooms, a bar, a restaurant with a dining area, an access hall and an intermediate area. Temporary art exhibitions will be opened in the Ice Hotel, in collaboration with the Cluj Art art gallery from Cluj-Napoca.

The furniture (the base of the beds in the rooms, the bar, the tables and the chairs in the restaurant) and all the decorations in the hotel will be made of ice.

“Each season, the Ice Hotel at Balea Lake draws several thousand visitors, Romanian tourists but also from many countries around the world. Every year, the most guests of the Ice Hotel are British, as a UK travel agency has special packages for the unique hotel in the Fagaras Mountains”, the press release also reads.
