The majority of foreign workers employed in BiH are from Turkiye, Nepal, Serbia and India

SARAJEVO, August 6 (FENA) – In the first half of 2024, when it comes to the employment of foreigners, 3,230 work permits were issued, of which 1,400 pertain to the Federation of BiH, 1,538 to the entity of Republika Srpska and 292 to the Brčko District of BiH.

“In connection to the report for the first half of 2024, the most work permits were issued for construction (1,071), followed by other service activities (401), trade (345) and manufacturing industry (332), hotel and catering (235), art, entertainment, recreation (230)… As for the countries of origin of foreign workers, most of them are from Turkiye (572), Nepal (465), Serbia (355), India (329), Bangladesh (246), China (168), Croatia (101), etc.,” said Boris Pupić, an expert associate at the BiH Agency for Labor and Employment.

He stated that the total annual quota of work permits for the extension and new employment of foreigners in BiH in 2024 amounted to 6,073 work permits (Federation of BiH 4,295, the RS 1,400 and Brčko District 378 work permits).

Pupić reminded that the total annual quota of work permits for the extension and new employment of foreigners in BiH in 2023 was 3,995 work permits (Federation of BiH 2,435, the RS 1,400 and Brčko District 160 work permits).

Pupić added that the annual quota for extending already issued work permits in 2024 is 2,450 work permits (Federation of BiH 1,950, RS 400 and Brčko District 100 work permits), and reminded that the annual quota for extending already issued work permits in 2023 was 1,060 work permits (Federation of BiH 600,the RS 400 and Brčko District 60 work permits).

“When it comes to the mediation of the Agency in the employment of our workers abroad, two programs are still current in Slovenia and FR Germany.

In Slovenia, we continue to mediate for all professions, and in Germany only for persons with completed secondary medical school. The number of mediations todate for Germany was 160, while the number of work permits issued in Slovenia on July 31 was 7,637,” said Pupić.
