Zagreb, 13 October 2025 (Hina/MIA) — The first edition of the Travelling Festival of Macedonian Film will arrive in Rijeka from Oct. 14 to 18, bringing a selection of classic and award-winning works that have marked the history of Macedonian cinema.

Screenings will take place at Art-kino Croatia, in cooperation with the Croatian Network of Independent Cinemas.

According to Art-kino Croatia, the festival will open with a block of films by Milton and Janaki Manaki, pioneers of Balkan cinema. Using the first film camera in the Balkans, purchased in London in 1905, they captured key events and figures from the early 20th century, along with traditional customs, religious rituals and historic celebrations.

The program will also feature works by Dimitrie Osmanli, Ljubisha Georgievski, Mitko Panov, Slavko Janevski, Dimitar Kostarov and Stole Popov, as well as the first Macedonian film ever to open the Venice Film Festival – the 2001 western “Dust”, directed by Milcho Manchevski.

The festival is organized by the Macedonian Cultural and Information Centre in Zagreb, in cooperation with the Cinematheque of North Macedonia and the Croatian Network of Independent Cinemas, with financial support from North Macedonia’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Admission to all screenings and events is free.
