Struga Poetry Evenings close, top gongs presented to laureates

The 65th Struga Poetry Evenings closed on Sunday evening with the presentation of the highest festival awards and international poetry reading event “Bridges”.
Dutch poet Anneke Brassinga was presented with the “Golden Wreath”, the festival’s highest honor. The “Miladinov Brothers” award for best poetry book published since the last edition of the festival was bestowed to Macedonian poet Nikolina Andova Shopova for her poetry collection “In the House”.
British poet Daniel Hinds was also given the UNESCO-sponsored “Bridges of Struga” award for best debut poet.
The Struga Poetry Evenings began with “Golden Wreath” laureate Anneke Brassinga planting a tree sapling at the Poetry Park and reading poems ahead of the last week’s official opening of the festival.
The festival opened with the traditional reading of Konstantin Miladinov’s “Longing for the South” and lighting the festival fire at Miladinov Brothers Cultural Center, followed by the “Meridians” poetry reading.
