ZAGREB, 25 July (Hina) – Split Airport assistant director Pero Bilas said on Thursday that the operation of Split Airport has been fully normalised after Monday’s hacker attack targeting the airport’s critical IT system, causing disruptions in the handling of passengers.
“The remaining functionalities of the system for the receipt and dispatch of passengers and planes were restored on Wednesday afternoon, and airport operations have been fully normalised,” Bilas said.
The airport is expected to handle 83В planes and 25,500 passengers today.
“Our activities are focused on the recovery of other IT systems necessary for the company’s functioning,” Bilas said.
It was confirmed previously that the airport was targeted by the Akira hacker group, with Interior Minister Davor Božinović saying the cyber attack was a classic ransomware case, where ransom is demanded for unlocking data, and that the authorities had identified an international group from Eurasia. He added that “there are no negotiations with criminal groups”.
