Spajic backs raising quotas for women in politics

Podgorica, (MINA) – Prime Minister Milojko Spajic has expressed support for the initiative to increase the electoral quota for the underrepresented gender from 30 to 40 percent, with an obligation to include at least one woman among every three candidates on electoral tickets.

According to the Government’s press release, Spajic expressed his support in a video address to the Parliamentary Committee for Gender Equality, which is considering the initiative.

He expressed belief that the Europe Now Movement (PES) is already applying this principle, noting that 40 percent of the ministers coming from the ranks of the party are women who, as he pointed out, manage their portfolios better than their male colleagues.

According to Spajic, it is particularly important for the parliament to take that step forward.

“Showing the strength of the entire society to rise above stereotypes and meet the highest standards of Europe and the world”, Spajic added.
