Sorensen after Kurti-Bislimi meeting: It’s a good start

“A Good Start,” said the European Union’s representative for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Peter Sorensen, after holding meetings with the country’s leaders.

During his first visit to Kosovo, he stated that the main objective is to move this process forward. However, he first intends to hold discussions with the parties and assess the current state of the dialogue.

After meeting on Monday with Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Kosovo’s chief negotiator for the dialogue, Besnik Bislimi, Sorensen told journalists that the discussions were positive and that his interest is to understand the stance of each party.

When asked whether compromise is necessary in the dialogue, he stated that this is up to the parties to decide.

Asked whether there will be a fresh start in the dialogue, he said that he will work in his own way.

Additionally, he said that his visit to Kosovo does not hold any particular symbolism but was scheduled according to his calendar and the availability of institutions in Kosovo.

Meanwhile, when asked about the closure of parallel Serbian municipalities in Kosovo, Sorensen stated that it is necessary to ensure that “people in Kosovo receive services in the best possible way.”

During the day, Sorensen also met with President Vjosa Osmani.

The Danish diplomat will stay in Kosovo until March 19, during which he is expected to meet with political party leaders and civil society representatives tomorrow.

He will then visit Serbia. Sorensen took office in February 2025, succeeding the former EU envoy for the dialogue, Miroslav Lajčák./
