Eichhorst: BiH must take advantage of the achieved momentum

SARAJEVO, February 7 (FENA) – The Managing Director for Europe at the European External Action Service (EEAS), Angelina Eichhorst, said today in Sarajevo that it is very important for BiH to use the achieved momentum to fulfill the conditions for the start of EU membership negotiations by March.

After attending the 10th edition of the EU-Western Balkans Political Directors’ meeting, Eichhorst said that it is significant that the mission of EUFOR has been strengthened with additional forces to ensure the security and stability of BiH.

She pointed out that the EU wants to see the successful preparation of the upcoming elections in BiH and added that she will visit the EUFOR base in Butmir before returning to Brussels.

BiH Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Josip Brkić, who hosted the aforementioned meeting, stated that they discussed alignment with the EU’s foreign and security policy, the war in Ukraine, and China’s influence on this region.

He emphasized that they also discussed the situation in the Middle East, with a special focus on Israel and Palestine, and the countries of the Persian Gulf.

Brkić said that BiH’s full alignment with the EU’s foreign and security policy was positively assessed, which the incumbent convocation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH is proud of.
