So far, 1,550 people have left Lebanon via Cyprus, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson tells CNA

So far, 1,550 people, mostly third-country nationals, have left Lebanon via Cyprus since assisted departures began on September 27, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Theodoros Gotsis told CNA on Tuesday.  He noted that the majority of them are Australians.

Out of the 1,550 people, 1,069 are Australian citizens. Australia has operated six flights and will continue with two more flights today and possibly tomorrow. The majority of those who arrived to Cyprus have left for their countries of destination.

Those awaiting departure are accommodated in state facilities based on the provisions of the National “Estia” Plan for the reception and repatriation of foreign citizens.

Among the 1,550 citizens, 76 are Cypriot citizens and 26 members of their families, 33 Greek citizens and smaller numbers from 19 other countries.

Gotsis said that Slovakia carried out four flights with a small military aircraft evacuating a total of 98 people, Slovaks and citizens from ten other countries.

It is recalled that Portugal was the first country to carry out a flight with 44 people.

Meanwhile, there is increased commercial traffic in the ports and marinas of Cyprus. The majority of them are European citizens.
