Senate’s Abrudean at Forum on Future of Mediterranean: Investing in people is for peace, sustainability, development

Bucharest, April 4 /Agerpres/ – Investing in people, through accessible, inclusive and quality education, is a long-term investment in peace, sustainability and development, highlighted the interim president of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean, at the Forum on the Future of the Mediterranean, in Granada.

‘In the face of multiple crises, we must continue to jointly uphold the value of closer cooperation between actors across the Euro-Mediterranean region who share the same perspectives on a peaceful future for all. Looking to the future, one of our key priorities must be education. Investing in people – through accessible, inclusive and quality education – is a long-term investment in peace, sustainability and development. Equally important is the need to recognize the essential role of youth, whose contributions are essential for building resilient and inclusive societies,’ Abrudean said at the forum, according to his Facebook page.

He pointed out that Romania remains a responsible partner in promoting democratic values in the Mediterranean region and will continue to actively contribute to strengthening Euro-Mediterranean cooperation.

‘At the Forum on the Future of the Mediterranean in Granada, inaugurated on Thursday in the presence of His Majesty King Felipe of Spain and which brings together leaders from 41 states in the Euro-Mediterranean region for several days, we reaffirmed this commitment, in the context in which the debates focused on major topics such as stability, security and common development. We also maintained that, especially in the current complicated times, dialogue and collaboration remain essential for building a peaceful and prosperous future. Equally important is the awareness of the essential role of the younger generations and why one of our key priorities must be education. We invest in young people, we invest in the long term,’ Abrudean wrote on Facebook.

On the sidelines of the forum, the acting president of the Senate participated in the ‘Peace Garden’ ceremony, along with other presidents of parliaments and heads of delegations.

‘Planting olive trees is not just a symbolic gesture, but reflects the need to cultivate, through sustained effort, lasting relations between nations, based on trust and mutual respect,’ Abrudean added.
