Cluj-based spiritualist sculptor Liviu Mocan is the winner of the Brancusi National Award 2022 for his exhibition “The Heart of Resurrection” mounted at the Black Church in Brasov.
“After holding personal exhibitions in New York, Chicago, Budapest or Reconvilier, Liviu Mocan brought to Brasov works that transpose in a suggestive sculptural language the impact of the Resurrection on our everyday life,” the Romanian Cultural Institute stated in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
The artist will be handed the distinction during the October 27 celebrations dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the inauguration of Constantin Brancusi’s monumental ensemble in Targu-Jiu.
The Brancusi National Award 2022, intended for a personality that earned recognition through their work and activity in promoting Romanian fine art values, is conferred by the ‘Constantin Brancusi’ Research, Documentation and Promotion Center in partnership with the Romanian Cultural Institute.
The award constitutes both an appreciation of artistic value and a moral and material reward for original works that highlight the authors’ creativity and contribute significantly to the enrichment of the national and universal cultural heritage.
