Sarajevo students gather to show support for their colleagues in Serbia

SARAJEVO, December 26 (FENA) – Around one hundred students in Sarajevo protested today in front of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Sarajevo, expressing solidarity with students in Serbia who are protesting following the tragic incident at the Novi Sad railway station that claimed 15 lives.

The organizer of the protest, Andrej Madunić, stated that the protests were initiated by psychology students, specifically the Psychology Students’ Association “Sinapsa,” and that the event evolved into a story of youth solidarity aimed at demonstrating unity.

“The goal is to show solidarity, provide support, and try to create a sense of belonging for young people, making them feel their voices matter and that they are part of something greater. We have long lacked spaces where young people feel like part of a community. Many here spoke about how this is one of the rare moments during their studies where they truly feel they are part of something that proudly represents their faculties,” said Madunić.

He emphasized that students must first mobilize internally.

The gathered students read out their demands, reiterating that they would adhere strictly to what they had publicly announced. The key messages were solidarity with their peers in Serbia and highlighting a range of issues in Bosnia and Herzegovina that, in their opinion, warrant future protests.
