ZAGREB, 10 March (Hina) – The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has granted the Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) the status of an Oscar-qualifying festival in the category of feature documentary films, SFF organisers announced.

Since 2019, winners of the SFF short film category have automatically qualified for Oscar nomination consideration. Now, this privilege has been extended to the winners of the Heart of Sarajevo Award for Best Feature Documentary.

According to the Academy’s decision, winners of the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Documentary Film, the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Short Film, and the European Film Academy’s Best Short Film nominee will all automatically qualify for Oscar nomination consideration.

This recognition highlights the excellence of award-winning films at the Sarajevo Film Festival, allowing them to be considered for an Oscar nomination if they meet the Academy’s additional criteria.

The Sarajevo Film Festival will take place from 15 to 22 August.
