The Romanian team ranked first, after winning four gold medals and two silver, at the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (BMO), which takes place April 25-30, in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry of Education and Research informed on Monday evening.
Students Emanuel Mazare from the ‘Alexandru Odobescu’ National College in Pitesti, Radu Stoleriu from the ‘Emil Racovita’ National College in Iasi, Pavel Ciurea and Andrei Vila, from the Bucharest International High School of Informatics, won gold medals.
Alexandru Ciobotea, from the Bucharest International High School of Informatics, and David Ghibu, also a student of the Bucharest International High School of Informatics, won silver medals.
BMO 2025 (42nd edition) was attended by teams from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Turkey (member countries) as well as teams from Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, France, Georgia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom (invited countries).
In the country ranking, Romania took the first place, with 198 points.
The Romanian team was coordinated by professor Catalin Gherghe from the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of the University of Bucharest (Leader) and by teacher Ovidiu Sontea from the ‘Tudor Vianu’ National College in Bucharest (Deputy), the same source also mentions.
