Romania’s Neagu becomes all-time top scorer in history of women’s handball Champions League
Romania’s former international women’s handball player Cristina Neagu on Sunday became the all-time top scorer in the history of the Women’s Handball Champions League after scoring 10 goals for CSM Bucharest, in a home match against the Danish team Nykobing Falster Handbold, which ended in 27-26.
Neagu’s overall tally of 1,155 goals is 10 more than Jovanka Radicevic of Montenegro, according to the European Handball Federation.
She announced on September 12 that the 2024-2025 season will be the last on the handball field.
Aged 36, Cristina Neagu has been playing for the Bucharest team since 2017. Born in Bucharest, she started playing handball at the age of 12, at CSS No. 5 in Bucharest. As a senior, she also played for HC Activ Ploiesti, Rulmentul Brasov, Oltchim Rm. Valcea and ZRK Buducnost Podgorica.
In December 2023, Neagu announced her retirement from the national team, upon the return of the squad from the World Cup in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
