Romanian firefighters carried out training activities at the headquarters of the Perpignan Sud department, where they were presented tactics for the use of directed fire, specialist crews and the necessary equipment for the use of tactical fire, as part of the activities of the Romanian module specialised in extinguishing wildfires in the French region.
“The French side has decided that the national module specialised in fighting wildfires will be pre-positioned in Torreilles, where a joint training exercise was held on the self-protection of the module of intervention in case of forest fires, respectively the supplying of the intervention groups for extinguishing wildfires (GIFF), with the support of the technical means of the Romanian rescuers,” informs the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU).
On Thursday, the Romanian module was presented a logistic truck, whose materials are transported by air (through the Airborne Intervention Detachment – Detachement d’Intervention Heliporte) in mountainous areas difficult to reach, for extinguishing wildfires in high areas, alpine hollows, etc.
“Also, in parallel with the pre-positioning mission, three officers from the management cell took part in a presentation of the French department’s aerial resources and an aerial reconnaissance in the mountainous area of the region,” the source said.
For Friday, the risk of wildfires is moderate, and the interventions of the Romanian module will be carried out at the request of the French officers delegated to assist and efficiently carry out the missions of the Romanian rescuers.
The second contingent of 40 firefighters left last Saturday for France, to change the personnel who, for the past two weeks, have been supporting their French counterparts by monitoring areas at risk of wildfires.
